What uniform does my Scout need?

Buy what your Scout needs now, understand what changes by grade, and ask before spending money on pieces you may not need.
Basic field uniform components
- Lions use the official Lion shirt, navy web belt, and cap; a neckerchief and slide are optional decisions for the den and families.
- Tigers, Wolves, and Bears use the official blue Cub Scout shirt with the appropriate grade insignia and neckwear described in the current guide.
- Webelos and Arrow of Light families should confirm the current shirt, badge, and placement before buying, since insignia placement changes with the program stage.
- Official pants, shorts, skorts, and socks are optional in the current national uniform guidance. Pack 92 leaders can explain what is practical for a particular activity.
Rank, grade, and neckerchief differences
Cub Scout uniforms follow the Scout’s grade. Neckerchiefs and slides are grade-specific for most Cub Scout ranks, while Lion neckwear is optional by den. Handmade slides may be appropriate where the official guidance allows them; ask your den leader if you are unsure.
Patch and insignia placement
Use the official insignia guide for exact placement. The Pack can help identify which patches your Scout has earned, but the national guide is the authority for where they go.
What should a new family buy first?
- Confirm your Scout’s grade and den before ordering.
- Start with the grade-appropriate shirt or Lion shirt, belt, and any neckerchief or slide your den uses.
- Wait on extra patches, optional pieces, and activity clothing until a leader confirms they apply.
- Keep receipts until the uniform is checked for fit and the right insignia.
When is a full uniform expected?
Pack 92 encourages proper use of the official Cub Scout field uniform and Pack-approved activity uniform in accordance with Scouting America guidelines.
Youth Uniform Assistance
No Cub Scout should be prevented from participating because their family cannot afford a blue Cub Scout uniform shirt. A family needing assistance may confidentially contact the Cubmaster, Committee Chair, or Chartered Organization Representative. Pack 92 will make reasonable efforts to provide a new or gently used blue Cub Scout uniform shirt. The shirt remains Pack property when purchased or supplied by the Pack.
